Indications emerged on Tuesday that the Governor Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State Government has received the first batch of bicycles rolled out under the “Keke Seyi” scheme.
The bicycles are meant to ease dispatch of documents and correspondences within the government secretariat, New Economy understands.
The government says the choice of bicycles was necessitated by the need to ensure an eco-friendly environment, devoid of fumes, smoke and other hazards.
The first phase of Keke Seyi was delivered by Awa Bike Nigeria.
The Oyo State Government had in January 2021 approved the sum of N750,000 for the procurement of 60 bicycles for the conveyance of civil servants within the state Secretariat to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Oyo Insight reported at the time that the bike-sharing scheme within the Secretariat will be available for use by members of the public and staff of the state.
“The Council approved the implementation of bicycle drive codenamed ‘keke Seyi.’ The bicycles will be piloted in collaboration with OurBikes Nigeria, an indigenous company, which has offered the state its services to come and pilot a bike-sharing scheme within the Secretariat so that the bicycles will be available for use by members of the public and staff of the state,” the state’s commissioner for energy and mineral resources, Barr. Temilolu ‘Seun Ashamu, said. https://oyoinsight.com/makinde-launches-keke-seyi-approves-n92m-for-power-supply-to-rcdc-awe/
