Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has vowed to fight hunger and poverty in Oyo State.
The governor spoke at the flag-off of the 2020 press week of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council.
The event was held in Ibadan, the state capital.
Makinde explained that many of the people on the streets in the state were pushed into doing menial jobs due to hunger and poverty.
This, he said, he will look into and address to solve the poverty question in the state.
Speaking on the rising number of Okada riders across Oyo State, the governor agreed that there is the need for the government to regulate and caution their excesses.
Makinde said the Oyo state government will not condone any misconduct from any group of people, including Okada riders.
But the governor pledged to look at the issues wholistically, with a view towards proferring solutions.
At the event on Monday, the governor was also installed as the Grand Patron of the oyo state council of the NUJ.
Other notable figures honoured at the event are Dr Oludare Akande and Chief Dotun Sanusi as patrons of the council.
The senator representing Oyo South in the senate, Senator Kola Balogun, was awarded the most media-friendly senator.
Also present at the occassion was the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
